Job searching used to be a lot more straightforward. Find openings at your favourite job board, send out your resume, go in for a few interviews, and accept an offer at a company that seems suitable. The world is changing, and so are our expectations for jobs and the companies behind them. We all spend a large part of our time working at a job, and so more and more, we all seek opportunities at workplaces where we can be fully engaged and feel appreciated.
We now look for more than a decent salary, we also want: (1) mission, the why behind the organization and its intent on bettering the world; (2) product, whether the company is building something that we can personally get behind; (3) team and culture, if the people working within the company are who you would enjoy spending time with and learning from; (4) leaders, if they’re people of integrity and ones you would want to follow; and (5) career growth, if the work environment and internal company processes support the advancement you’re looking for.
